Infiniti i30 2001
I went to an Infiniti dealership and they said it would cost me about $4000 to fix it. (they did not even look at the car). I talked to my mechanic and he said i could put a universal converter on it that would cost probably less than 300$ to fix on it.
Is it smart to put the $300 one on it? What challenges should i forsee by going the universal converter route?

I know dealerships are expensive but that sounds like they seen you coming. Unless they have to reprogram the ECM after installing the new cat there should be no reason that you can’t use a universal.
